About The Author

Craig Markhardt is an accomplished expert in the mortgage industry.  With over 15 years of experience originating home loans starting in the early 2000’s, he has a unique and intimate knowledge that only a select few  people in the industry could ever obtain.  His experience is the result of his primary objective for success, to hold the highest, uncompromising, standard of ethics found.

Throughout his career he has seen the worst and the best of others inside and outside of the mortgage profession. Here is a list of accomplishments he is known for:

  • owned and sold a successful million-dollar mortgage brokerage that survived the Great Recession
  • recruited, trained, motivated and managed over 10% of the existing loan originators in his market
  • started and built a consumer-oriented mortgage professional association in South Dakota in which he presided over for six years
  • lobbied at the State and National level fighting on behalf of mortgage consumers to eliminate corruption in the industry
  • worked to gain support of the SD Division of Banking and authored, lobbied, and successfully passed the current mortgage industry law in SD
  • testified multiple times in front of the South Dakota House of Representatives, and Senate Finance Committees
  • originated loans for over 3000 families with the primary goal of making the best financial decision on each of them
  • built multiple organizations that have produced tens of millions of dollars in home loans annually
  • attended over 180 hours of structured mortgage industry education
  • became the first and only Certified Residential Mortgage Specialist in SD history
  • advised banks on how to improve and increase their home lending ability
  • was a committee member who co-authored South Dakota’s licensing exam used by the National Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (NMLS)
  • was a member of the small team selected by governing authorities that developed ideas for the Federal program that later became the NMLS
  • approached, test marketed and successfully developed a new loan product for South Dakota Housing Development Authority’s First Time Home Buyer bond program
  • authored and administered a class for real estate agents titled “ABC’s of Home Finance for Real Estate Professionals”
  • is a public speaker about real estate and mortgage industry topics
  • been profiled and published in multiple industry related magazines and trade journals
  • annually volunteers and teaches high school students about the importance personal finance through Junior Achievement
  • experienced the ups and downs every home owner feels through buying and selling millions of dollars of real estate
